Hi Everyone,
As you know we are raising money for the Prostate Cancer Charity. Our target is to raise £15,000. In an attempt to reach our goal one of our company Directors, Phil Mitzman is leaving on Saturday this week (12th November) to trek to base camp Everest. This is no mean feat and during the trip he will have to overcome high altitude and climb to a height of 17,500 feet! If you are able to support this very worthy cause please click the link below and visit our Just Giving page where within a few moments you can donate direct to the charity and help Phil reach his target. http://www.justgiving.com/stockshop Thanks for your support. For most of the country the Christmas feeling is settling in, December is here, the days are shorter and the snow is falling...falling to the point that some of our shops have had to shut and it took one member of staff 9 ½ hours to get home!
At StockShop head office however we seem to be separate from the rest with nothing that resembles ‘proper’ snow...we are all just cold and miserable! As of Monday we plan to change things...Our office tree will be displayed along with a selection of secret Santa presents! Tinsel will be hung from the ceiling and Christmas music will be playing! We are bringing in the festive spirit with some funky Christmas glasses, cinnamon scented candles and lots of other goodies. The girls in the office are expecting some fancy bling nail files and there’s even something for the grumpy old man!! The Christmas party should be a huge success with the ladies donning some fancy party frocks and some sparkling jewellery. After all the excitement is over we plan to head home, curl up in front of the fire Read More 28 July 2010 04:26
Putting together an outfit that works for the office and can also look great in the evening can be a challenge. A lot of people are worried about wearing fashionable clothing and still looking professional. Remember office wear doesn’t have to be boring; you don’t want to fade into the background always wearing the same dull black and grey combinations. Colour plays a big part in portraying the right professional image; red for example denotes power and navy trustworthiness. Try to avoid colours like hot pink and wild prints that may be a step too far for the office environment.
The type of jewellery that works for the office really depends on your profession. If you’re a creative type then you can usually get away with wearing bigger statement pieces. Whereas if you work in a more corporate environment then avoid noisy bangles and stick to simpler jewellery like studded earrings. To take an outfit from a day time office look, to a more sophisticated evening look, choose bold accessories, like this beaded Read More 05 July 2010 03:30

So it’s the 18th March and finally the sun is shining. Outside the crocuses are blooming and there’s absolutely no sign of a drop of snow anywhere in my general vicinity. So what, you might ask, would you be thinking spending two days travelling to Holland via Germany in order to listen to Christmas carols playing over the music system?
Well in retail, as you know, we are always at least one season ahead and right now it’s time to be buying Christmas. Not just in a little way either; we’re talking full on Christmas with lights, baubles, dancing reindeer and a fifteen foot inflatable Father Christmas! The company we visit is the biggest in Europe and what they don’t know about Christmas isn’t worth knowing. We arrived on Wednesday and spent the afternoon acclimatising ourselves with the showroom. You really need to get your bearings; this year there are nine theme rooms as well as a candle room, a lighting room, and a room full of animated soft toys. Once we get an idea of the general layout it’s time to start painting a Read More 17 March 2010 01:08 Handbags, clutch bags, across body bags and shoppers... A woman’s most important item to hold all of her daily essentials. 04 March 2010 03:30 Every February we take a trip to the NEC in Birmingham to visit the spring gift show. It is 18 halls full of every gift product you can imagine. You could get lost for days! It was a successful trip this year, we managed to locate some fun and exciting new products for the spring season and also begun to plan the dreaded Christmas range! We have been looking for new soft toys to add to our range for a long time and finally we have found some. The new range of baby soft toys from Keel are my favourite and are already selling well. We usually find that baby products tend to be costly, but this range is well priced and great quality, see what you think... Another product range that we can’t stop talking about is the Easter giftware. The Easter season has been getting better and better for us over the last two years and this is clearly true for other retailers. The

We have been visiting trade shows to give us inspiration for next seasons range and to ensure that we are not missing any new products. We visited Pure at the beginning of February, which is a trade fashion show that we go to twice a year. Our favourite part is the catwalk show as it gives us ideas on colours, shapes and trends for the upcoming buying meetings. The catwalk had a casual feel that we will definitely be translating into our autumn range. We loved the kingfisher blue and will be adding it to our knitwear colour palette. We will keep you updated with sneak previews as samples start to come through! Apart from using the show for ideas we also buy accessories and we have bought the best handbags yet! It’s a new range for us called Juno and exclusive to the website. Here’s a sneak preview of our

The shops are still full of sale, but all the good stuff has gone. It is nearly pay day, but you are still feeling the pinch from Christmas. Then on top of all of that we are having the coldest winter on record for 30 years, so buying the SS2010 collections that are beginning to hit shops and are all over the magazines seems like a ridiculous idea. However it is January and we have to do something to get us through the January blues! So we have spent some time flicking through magazines and looking through our trend report books to help you spend what little money you have wisely and help start your spring wardrobes. 22 January 2010 01:29 We’re proud to announce the reopening of our St Thomas’ store in London, and alongside it the opening of a new gift store. We’re now located in the newly redeveloped Westminster Walk entrance to the hospital. The construction work had been ongoing for the last six months, and while it progressed we were located in a temporary unit outside. We know that our staff are glad to finally escape those cramped confines! The new concourse is one of the most impressive we’ve ever seen and we’re glad to be part of it. It is so amazing that we hope other NHS trusts follow suit! Although our fashion store is the same size it has been revamped with a completely new look and layout including a new logo. However we have managed to squeeze in an extra changing room! We will be spreading this new logo across the country to all of our other stores soon. 14 January 2010 10:18

No one knows for sure the exact origins of the Christmas tree. However, many believe that the tradition of bringing a tree into the home around Christmas time and then decorating it with ornaments originated in Northern Germany around the 16th century. This tradition spread over the centuries throughout Germany, Eastern Europe and eventually reaching Britain and the United States around the 18th century.
But why use the Fir tree? It is believed that St Boniface, who converted the Germans to Christianity, came across a group of pagans worshipping an Oak tree at Geismar. This angered St Boniface and as an act of defiance, he decided that he would cut down the Oak tree. St Boniface then noticed a Fir tree starting to grow from the roots of the Oak tree. This was seen as a sign of Christ to St Boniface and the German people. The Fir tree then became a sign of Christ amongst German people and eventually a world-wide symbol of Christmas. The tinsel used to decorate the trees was invented in Germany and was made from Read More 18 December 2009 09:44 The Christmas party season is underway, so it is time to let your hair down and enjoy the festive season. We didn’t really know what to expect on this trip. We had been filled with horror stories of what not to eat, what not to do, what awful things we would see, but now having been to India I am pleased to say that these stories were exaggerated. There were three of us on the trip and all of us loved every minute. So much so that our director is returning in December to go back packing!
The trip was for three days going from one supplier to another to buy spring summer 2010 samples and see how Indian factories work. It was my first time visiting a factory and I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t looking forward to it, but again like India it wasn’t as bad as I had imagined. However it was not what you would see in a factory in the UK and a working day for a factory worker in India is a million miles away from my working day. When a buyer selects a style for a range you just cannot imagine the work that has to be done to even produce a sample. Samples have always just appeared Read More |
